The biggest gaming news of the week: July 8, 2022

There is never a dull moment in the wonderful world of video games. Sure, it can be full of stupid bullshit as EA claims single player is for suckers, but what does it matter. Let’s not dwell on bad takes.

For whatever reason, most of this week’s little headlines were about cool fan projects and achievements. Whether it was SkyrimSilent Hill 2or cup — passion projects were central. Heck, one Twitch streamer was even made landlord-ban his thing.

Now let’s move on to the honorable mentions and dive into the biggest gaming news items of the week.

pronounced, Luminous Productions’ next massive RPG, isn’t coming out this year. Instead, it will drop early 2023† This was an extremely bizarre announcement of delay, with Square Enix claiming that “ongoing discussions with key partners” led to this decision. What that means, however, you’ll find out later in the list.

Final Fantasy XIV

Okay, it’s time for weird stuff. A Final Fantasy 14 fan bought billboard space in Texas and California to advertise their in-game beach club party. Yes, this actually happened – there were photos and everything† Square Enix had the billboards removed quickly, but (surprisingly) did not ban the player. Pretty wild situation.

Looks like some sort of Nintendo Switch hardware refresh isn’t far off. Not necessarily a successor, but possibly a improved version from the console. In June, Nintendo spent 8000x of its regular resource budget. So yeah, the company is probably gearing up for something big. Personally I think Breath of the Wild 2 in 4K with ray tracing sounds mint (this doesn’t happen).

You knew this would cost the highest billing. God of War Ragnarokfinally, finally has a release date† Yes, everyone can stop whining about the developers about when it comes out. Meanwhile, there is no more speculation that the game will be delayed to 2023. It is not happening. How do I know? Well, because God of War RagnarokThe release date is November 9, 2022 for PS4 and PS5. Please let’s never talk about this again.
