Due to delays, the performer didn’t arrive until just before 6pm, at which point the crowd was so large that she had to be flanked by police before being escorted to the venue. Minaj is in the UK performing at Wireless festival in Finsbury Park, north London, where she has been part of a historic lineup of all-female headliners.

Guys, if you guys don’t get into a locked area, they won’t let me get out of the cars. Pls don’t run in the streets. Please come to 1 place. 1 line 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 https://t.co/6XixF1OTh9

Metropolitan Police confirmed that venue staff, “concerned about the significant crowds outside”, had contacted them ahead of the event. The organizers then decided to cancel the meet & greet “in the interest of safety”.

In light of concerns over crowds, a Section 35 dispersal order — which authorizes a uniformed police officer or PCSO to bar a person from an area for a period of up to 48 hours — has been enforced in the area. No arrests were made.

As problems with the public mounted near the Crowndale Road location on Monday afternoon, the rapper made a Twitter plea to her fans. She wrote: “Guys, if you guys don’t get into a locked area, they won’t let me get out of the cars. Pls don’t run in the streets. Please come to 1 place. 1 line.”

The cancellation came less than 24 hours after the American rapper headlined the festival’s Finsbury Park stage, where anticipation surrounding her performance saw “confused security personnel struggling to calm crowds”.

Cafe Koko has been approached for comment.
