Information about COVID-19 at Joliette Institution

Joliette, QCJuly 12, 2022 /CNW Telbec/ – The correctional service of Canada (CSC) advises that there are seven active inmate cases of COVID-19 at Joliette Institution, in Quebec† The health and safety of our staff, inmates and the public remains our top priority. We are closely monitoring the situation and measures have been taken to minimize the spread of the virus within the institution.

COVID-19 testing is offered to inmates and staff. The number of active inmate cases currently reported for this facility is based on rapid testing or PCR testing. The number may change as more tests are performed and lab-confirmed results are available. Detainee test numbers are available on our website.

This is a changing situation and we continue to apply and strengthen infection prevention and control measures to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19, and are adjusting based on public health advice. All employees are equipped with the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including medical masks, respirators and face shields. All inmates are provided with medical masks and are encouraged to wear them at all times when not in their cells. Improved cleaning and disinfection throughout the site continues.

CSC has been vaccinating prisoners since January 2021† All offenders, including new recordings in CSC, are offered the vaccination at all institutions. Boosters are also being offered as part of the ongoing vaccination process. More information and records on vaccines administered to federal inmates are available on our website.

All individuals entering the facility are actively screened and decisions regarding site access, as well as programs and services are made with due regard for public health advice.

We are committed to reducing the risks of COVID-19 in all our operations. We will continue to work with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), local public health, unions and stakeholders to take further steps needed to ensure everyone’s safety.
