Fans of Ten’s cat-and-mouse reality game show Hunted could have been forgiven for thinking they were watching Drag Race Down Under on Monday’s episode, as the four remaining fugitives all relied heavily on tows to try and evade the fighters. .
After a season of contestants wearing dodgy wigs and shop dresses, you’ll leave it to friends Jake and Rob – who have been running laps around the Hunters since the game’s inception – to put on some truly unrecognizable disguises.
Rob, a hairdresser and makeup artist, made sure he and cop dragged Jake very convincingly for their next outing, knowing that going out in public as being himself was just too risky.
Their mission: to go to a local pub and befriend some strangers, who would hopefully take them apart for the night as they went their separate ways for the final phase of the game.
And Rob was prepared, putting them both in wigs, makeup, breastplates, and even facial prosthetics:
Cut to Jake and Rob at full throttle, who blended in very well as they sipped cocktails with a group of girls in a Footscray pub – one of whom announced, “You can come and stay with us if you like.”
A complaint – hunted brushed up on this undercover operation, showing us barely more than 30 seconds of Jake and Rob in drag in the pub before moving on to the next scene.
It raised many questions: how exactly? did two big men in cross-dressing convince some strangers in the bar to crash them? Unleash the expansive pub scene, Ten!
Also dependent on the power of drag were contestants Stathi and Matt, who fled to Daylesford’s LGBTI ChillOut Festival with the plan to meet a transvestite friend who would dress them up so they could move around town in disguise.
Unfortunately, the Hunters intercepted their encounter (perhaps meeting a big drag queen in purple wigs at the local pub wasn’t the best plan to evade detection), caught Matt and left an emotional Stathi on the run on his own.
That means only Stathi, Rob and Jake are left in the game as the show heads to tonight’s finale – will they all, or even just one of them, make it to the ‘extraction point’ and share in the $100,000 winnings ?
Hunted ends tonight at 7:30 p.m. on Ten.
