England 8-0 Norway: Euro 2022 Group A match player ratings | Euro 2022 Women

England (4-2-1-3)

Mary Earps It is difficult to mark the Manchester United goalkeeper as she was barely able to make a save. Guaranteed distribution. 7

Lucy Bronze Provided the distraction and physicality that enabled Mead to riot for her. 7

Millie Bright The Chelsea defender played a key role in this win, coming out to get tight against Hegerberg as the Lyon forward sank deep. 8

Leah Williamson Calm and measured, she never let her teammates stray out of position. 7

Rachel Daly Show why she keeps her place for the left leg options with a physical and dynamic show. 8

Georgia Stanway Bayern Munich proves she can provide defensive discipline alongside Walsh without losing her creativity. Fine fine. 9

Kiera Walsh The anchor of this newly formed midfield, its distribution and attitude were exemplary. 9

Beth Mead Not only did he score a great hat-trick, but sent a stream of crosses that deserved even more goals. Absolutely unplayable. 10

Fran Kirby A masterful display of the Chelsea No 10 returning to match fitness. 8

Lauren Hemp Strong, direct, willing to try things that just keep on coming. Great lead and a target to boot. 9

Norway (4-2-3-1)

Guro Pettersen Valerenga’s goalkeeper won the goal of the season in Sweden’s top flight last year; here she could do very little about England’s own goal in the match competition. 5

Tuva Hansen To be fair, not many right-backs would want to play against Lauren Hemp this year. Maintain team form. 5

Maren Mjelde The Norwegian captain was easily ousted by Ellen White at the corner flag in the run-up to the fourth goal. 4

Maria Thorisdottir This is a night the Manchester United defender will be hard pressed to forget: on the heels, slow to react to blindside runners, unluckily penalized for the penalty for the opening goal and ousted by White for the third. Nightmare. 2

Julie Blakstad The Manchester City left-back suffered a scorching time from Beth Mead in particular and was booked for an agricultural challenge on the Arsenal winger. 4

Syrstad Engen I kept trying to bring order to Norway’s disheveled midfield and never stopped running. 5

Wild Boo Risa Never got a grip on England’s two No 8’s and replaced midway through the second half 4

Karina Saevik Could have done better when picked by Blakstad, trailing just 2-0 but ruining a clear volley chance 4

Caroline Graham Hansen Unable to find the spaces either side of Keira Walsh which could have been a problem for England. 4

Guro Reiten Such a quality player, but ended up having to play more of a fullback to try and stop England’s flooding down her wing. 5

Ada Hegerberg Norwegian football’s golden girl could question her decision to step out of international football after this! Superbly chained by Bright. 4

Substitutes: Frida Maanum (for Risa 59) 5Guro Bergsvand (for Saevik 46) 5Celin Bizet Ildhusoy (for Hegerberg 75) 5Amalie Eikeland (for Hansen 76) 5Elisabeth Terland (for Reiten, 84) 5
