Ashley McKenzie describes how he won gold judo medal at the Commonwealth Games
On day six of the Commonwealth Games, England’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson continues her run for heptathlon gold, which will finish on the track tonight. The reigning Commonwealth champion goes into day two with a 109-point lead, but faces stiff competition from teammate Holly Mills, among others.
Emily Campbell also bids for a gold medal in the women’s weightlifting. The 28-year-old rose to fame when she took the Olympic silver medal in the women’s 87kg+ category at the Tokyo Olympics, after also winning Commonwealth bronze at the Gold Coast four years ago. She is the reigning European champion and favorite for the gold medal on her home podium.
Elsewhere, Evie Richards is battling for the mountain bike title, which would be an upgrade from the silver medal she won in 2018 but may be hampered by months of back problems and a recent spell with Covid. On the track, Daryll Neita will be ready for a 100m final with Jamaica’s Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah in one of the most intriguing face-offs of the Games, while England will be poolside watching Tokyo champion Reece Dunn in the S14 200m Freestyle, World Champion Ben Proud in the Men’s 50m Freestyle, and the Men’s Relay, with Scotland being represented by Tokyo silver medalist Duncan Scott in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley.

Joe Fraser believes the Commonwealth Games have given the world a glimpse of the next gymnastics superstar.
Jake Jarman has certainly come a long way since he was spotted a talent in a Peterborough park swinging from the climbing frames.
He was only seven years old when his gymnastics talent caught the eye of a passing coach, the kind of scouting feat a Premier League football club would crave.
The 20-year-old added jump gold to his podium performances in the team event, the all-around competition and the floor final.
